What Is an Impact-Rated Door, and When Do You Need One
An impact-rated door is tested as a complete system, the slab, glass, frame, threshold and hardware together, and has to survive a large missile impact and thousands of pressure cycles without the opening failing. If your opening is in a wind-borne debris region, or your permit calls for opening protection, you need an impact-rated system or approved shutters. Outside those zones a non-impact door with the same slabs, glass and finishes is usually the better value.
