What makes a door impact rated

An impact door is tested as a complete system: slab, glass, frame, threshold and hardware. It has to survive a large missile impact and thousands of pressure cycles without the opening failing. That is what Florida building officials look for, and it is why an impact door cannot be assembled from mismatched parts.

Every impact system we sell is supplied as a tested unit with the documentation your inspector expects, so nothing stalls at final inspection.

  • Tested to Florida HVHZ high velocity hurricane zone standards
  • Entirely composite frames that will not rot in coastal humidity
  • Insulated fiberglass slabs with laminated impact glass
  • Decorative, camed and textured privacy glass families
  • A.D.A. slabs, sills and locks available

Impact versus non-impact: which do you need

If your opening is in a wind-borne debris region, or your permit calls for opening protection, you need an impact-rated system or approved shutters. Outside those zones a non-impact door with the same slabs, glass and finishes is usually the better value.

Send us the address and the opening sizes and we will tell you which line applies before you spend anything.

Common Questions

Do impact doors count for insurance credits?

In many Florida policies, approved opening protection on every opening can reduce your windstorm premium. Your carrier decides, but we supply the product approval documentation you will need to submit.

How much do hurricane impact doors cost?

It depends on size, glass, finish and whether you need sidelites or a transom. We do not publish prices because every quote is personal, which is how we stay competitive. Tell us the opening and we come back fast with a real number.

How long does an impact door take to arrive?

Stocked configurations move quickly. Custom sizes, custom glass and special finishes are made to order, so lead times vary by manufacturer. We give you the current lead time with the quote.

Can you match impact windows to the doors?

Yes. Our Hurricane Guard and StormStrong lines cover impact windows and patio doors in both aluminum and vinyl, so the whole elevation matches.
